The director behind MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and SCARFACE are filming their next film in Copenhagen. The production now triples its consumption and number of days in Copenhagen by means of an investment from Copenhagen Film Fund.
What was originally intended as two-day background recordings in Copenhagen without actors, has now turned into eight high-voltage days with Nikolai Coster-Waldau in human hunting over the city’s roofs and action scenes at Copenhagen Police Station.
This is an investment of DKK 2 million. DKK from the Copenhagen Film Fund, which has made it possible for the American director Brian de Palma in collaboration with the Danish production company Schønne Film to place a larger part of the footage for the film DOMINO in the Danish capital.
The history of DOMINO has always been Copenhagen as its source, but it has previously not been possible to film main scenes in the city due to lack of funding. Using an investment from Copenhagen Film Fund, we are now filming eight days in inner city. It is absolutely crucial for the Danish film and television industry that there are players in Denmark who believe in and help international productions to put productions in the country, as they otherwise move elsewhere. Without support from DR and Copenhagen Film Fund, it would not have been possible to film in Copenhagen,” says the film’s Danish main producer Michel Schønnemann.
In addition to the Danish Nikolai Coster-Waldau, DOMINO also has Dutch Carice van Houten (GAMES OF THRONES and BLACK BOOK) and Australian Guy Pearce in supporting roles. All three stars participate in the filming in inner Copenhagen, which runs until 9 August.
The film’s action unfolds in Copenhagen, where a local police officer, played by Coster-Waldau, tries to create justice, after his partner has been murdered by a mysterious man. He gets help from a female police officer, played by Carice van Houten. But the search for the offender takes a turn as the two officers find out that the offender is a CIA agent trying to stop a terror cell. A hunt that leads them to Spain and Belgium.
Film production is good business for Copenhagen
Copenhagen Film Fund has invested in DOMINO on the basis of an expected minimum consumption of DKK 9.6 million. DKK on salaries for Danish film workers, photographers, producers, transport and locations. But there is more to gain from attracting this kind of productions than pure financial gain, according to the director of the fund.
“The Copenhagen Film Fund obviously has a financial focus on the fact that the foreign productions we attract to the city must create growth and jobs in the region. But we are also in the world to make Copenhagen a place where something happens. Where film and TV recordings fill, noise and create atmosphere in the street scene. Gastronomy, old buildings and cycle paths are good, but that’s not enough. We know that it also burns a country and a region when we show our society, our culture, and our values on screens throughout the world. It is, among other things, what we achieve with a movie like DOMINO. Through film and television, we can make Denmark a place that the rest of the world will travel to,” says Copenhagen Film Fund’s director, Thomas Gammeltoft.
DOMINO is written by the Norwegian author Petter Skavlan, who is behind KON-TIKI and SOFIES WORLD. Danish Schønne Film is the main producer with Spanish Suroeste Films, Belgian N279 Entertainment and Zilvermeer Productions as co-producers.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau i menneskejagt over Københavns tage
Instruktøren bag MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE og SCARFACE filmer sin næste film i København. Produktionen tredobler nu sit forbrug og antal optagedage i København ved hjælp af en investering fra Copenhagen Film Fund
Hvad der oprindeligt var tænkt som to dages baggrundsoptagelser i København uden skuespillere, er nu blevet til otte højspændte dage med Nikolai Coster-Waldau i menneskejagt over byens tage og actionscener på Københavns Politigård.
Det er en investering på 2 mio. kr. fra Copenhagen Film Fund, der har gjort det muligt for den amerikanske instruktør Brian de Palma i samarbejde med det danske produktionsselskab Schønne Film at lægge en større del af optagelserne til filmen DOMINO i den danske hovedstad.
Historien bag DOMINO har hele tiden haft København som sit udspring, men det har tidligere ikke kunne lade sig gøre at filme hovedscener i byen på grund af manglende finansiering. Ved hjælp af en investering fra Copenhagen Film Fund filmer vi nu otte dage i indre by. Det er helt afgørende for den danske film- og tv-branche, at der er aktører i Danmark, der tror på og hjælper internationale produktioner til at lægge produktioner i landet, da de ellers rykker andre steder hen. Uden støtte fra DR og Copenhagen Film Fund ville det ikke have været muligt at filme i København,” udtaler filmens danske hovedproducent Michel Schønnemann.
Foruden danske Nikolai Coster-Waldau har DOMINO også nederlandske Carice van Houten (GAMES OF THRONES og BLACK BOOK) og australske Guy Pearce i bærende roller. Alle tre stjerner deltager i optagelserne i indre København, der løber frem til den 9. august.
Filmens handling lægger ud i København, hvor en lokal politibetjent, spillet af Coster-Waldau, forsøger at skabe retfærdighed, efter hans makker er blevet myrdet af en mystisk mand. Han får hjælp af en kvindelig politikollega, spillet af Carice van Houten. Men jagten på gerningsmanden tager en drejning, da de to betjente finder ud af, at gerningsmanden er en CIA-agent, som forsøger at stoppe en terrorcelle. En jagt der blandt andet fører dem til Spanien og Belgien.
Filmproduktion er god forretning for København
Copenhagen Film Fund har investeret i DOMINO på baggrund af et forventet minimumsforbrug på 9,6 mio. kr. på blandt andet lønninger til danske filmarbejdere, fotografer, producer, transport og locations. Men der er, ifølge fondens direktør, mere at vinde ved at tiltrække denne slags produktioner end ren økonomisk gevinst.
”Copenhagen Film Fund har selvfølgelig et økonomisk fokus på, at de udenlandske produktioner vi tiltrækker til byen skal skabe vækst og arbejdspladser i regionen. Men vi er også sat i verden for at gøre København til et sted, hvor der sker noget. Hvor film- og tv- optagelser fylder, larmer og skaber stemning i gadebilledet. Gastronomi, gamle bygninger og cykelstier er godt, men det er ikke nok. Vi ved, at det også brander et land og en region, når vi viser vores samfund, vores kultur og vores værdier på skærme i hele verden. Det er blandt andet det, vi opnår med en film som DOMINO. Gennem film og tv kan vi gøre Danmark til et sted, som resten af verden vil rejse til, ” fortæller Copenhagen Film Funds direktør, Thomas Gammeltoft.
