Christopher Nolan Gives ‘Dunkirk’ a Final Push at Warner Bros.’ CineEurope Show. J.K. Rowling also teed up the second ‘Fantastic Beasts’ to the crowds in Barcelona.
With many exhibitors expecting Dunkirk to be a major box-office draw this summer, Christopher Nolan received a rapturous welcome when he took to the stage on the first day of CineEurope.
Speaking at the Warner Bros. presentation in Barcelona, the director underlined his love of the big screen as he introduced his all-star, big-budget retelling of the famed World War II evacuation of British troops from the French coast, shot entirely in Imax film and set for release July 21.
Warners also showcased a bevy of horror titles, providing exclusive clips from the remake of Stephen King’s It — already a record-breaker with 200 million-plus views of its trailer in under 24 hours — plus behind-the-scenes footage of Annabelle: Creation and the unveiling of Conjuring 2 spinoff The Nun, which is not due out until July 13, 2018. Annabelle: Creation, set to be released Aug. 11, was given a full screening following the presentation.
Elsewhere, Jackie Chan gave a shout-out for the upcoming Ninjago film from Lego, and there were also clips from family animation Small Feet, plus the definitely-not-family comedies The House and Who’s Your Daddy (to be released in December in the U.S. as Bastards).
Additionally, J.K. Rowling delved back into the world of Harry Potter alongside producer David Heyman in an extended video introducing the second in the five-strong Fantastic Beasts series, set to start filming in eight weeks and already having lined up Jude Law to play a young Albus Dumbledore.
But the Warner Bros. show closed with arguably the studio’s most ambitious universe of all, showing footage from the upcoming superhero ensemble pic Justice League, due out Nov. 17 and already buoyed by the ongoing success of Wonder Woman, the solo film of one of its key members.
